Brett Kern

Brett Kern suffered a hand injury in Sunday's game, and the Titans are bringing in former Jets punter Lachlan Edwards for a workout.

Brett Kern’s hand injury is serious enough that the Tennessee Titans will bring in former New York Jets punter Lachlan Edwards for a tryout on Tuesday.

Edwards is en route to Nashville for that tryout, per a league source.

Kern, the Titans’ All-Pro punter, suffered a hand injury in Sunday’s 31-20 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. He suffered the injury on a pass attempt on an aborted extra point attempt when the snap was low and the Titans were unable to get the kick away. Kern’s pass was intercepted by Josh Bynes.

The fear is that Kern will miss time with the injury, necessitating the Titans adding another punter. Kicker Tucker McCann, who is on the team’s practice squad, can punt as well, but has never attempted either a punt or a kick in an NFL game.

Edwards, 28, is a native of Australia and played at Sam Houston State. He averaged 45.9 yards per punt in each of the past two seasons for the Jets. He has a career punting average of 45.5 yards per punt.
